Why Handmade?

Handcrafted soap is soap in it's true and most pure form.  It is a blend of both science and art.  People have been making soap by hand for the past 150 years and combine that with the creativity of the soapmaker, each bar of soap is unique, luxurious and very safe.  True soaps are a result of a chemical reaction between vegetable or animal fats, water and lye.  When these ingredients are combined, they transform into soap and glycerin with no lye remaining in the soap.  This process is called "saponification", which literally means "the making of soap."

Most soapmakers use food quality oils and butters and other natural ingredients.  Here at The Skin You're In, we try to use organic and/or fair trade oils and butters whenever possible.  We also strive to find organic and/or wildcrafted herbs in our products.   We invest the love of our craft, many hours of research and self-education into each batch of soap, lotion, creams, lip products, hair care products and spa products.
